The painting
The Sistine Madonna C
On a bank of clouds, Mary holds the Christ Child, with Saint Sixtus on one side and Saint Barbara on the other, while dozens of faint putti fill the sky behind. Below her, two winged putti rest on their elbows; they became famous by themselves and now turn up on stamps, socks and wrapping paper. Pope Julius II ordered it for San Sisto in Piacenza in honour of his late uncle, Pope Sixtus IV. Augustus III paid a record price for it in 1754 and took it to Dresden. The Sistine Madonna C is a hand-painted oil on canvas reproduction of Raphael Sanzio's work. Each piece is made to order, with full customization of size and framing to suit your space. Every reproduction is backed by our 90-day satisfaction guarantee, with free worldwide shipping.

The hand behind it
Raphael Sanzio
Raphael is the painter of perfect balance. His Madonnas, portraits and great frescoes have clear, harmonious compositions, gentle faces and a calm grace that made him the model for European painters for centuries. Born in Urbino, the son of the painter Giovanni Santi, he trained with Perugino and then worked in Florence, where he studied Leonardo and Michelangelo. From 1508 he worked in Rome for Popes Julius II and Leo X, painting the rooms of the Vatican palace, including The School of Athens. He died in Rome at 37 and is buried in the Pantheon. La Belle Jardinière is in the Louvre and Lady with a Unicorn is in the Galleria Borghese in Rome. In his portraits, such as Cardinal Tommaso Inghirami, look for the calm, direct likeness and the sure handling of colour.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get The Sistine Madonna C in a different size or shape?
