Alessandro Araldi

Alessandro Araldi was a Renaissance painter in Parma. His work shows the influence of Venetian painters like Giovanni Bellini and of the Ferrarese Lorenzo Costa, with calm figures, clear colour and careful detail.
His best known works are frescoes painted in 1514 for the abbess Giovanna da Piacenza in the Benedictine convent of San Paolo in Parma, showing scenes from the life of Saint Catherine and an Annunciation. A few years later Correggio painted his famous room for the same abbess, in a much more modern style.
The Holy Family with Bishop Domenico da Imola and the Portrait of Barbara Pallavicino are the works we paint. Look at the quiet faces and the careful, balanced arrangement.
