Benedetto Diana
Benedetto Diana was a Venetian painter active around 1500. His work has a strong individual character, with geometric forms and quirky details that art historians link to Jacopo de’ Barbari and Lorenzo Lotto.
His best known picture belongs to the cycle of the Miracles of the Relic of the Holy Cross, painted for the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista and now in the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice. It shows a crowded Venetian scene full of everyday detail.
