Delphin Enjolras

Delphin Enjolras painted young women in quiet, private moments: reading, sewing, resting by a fire or dressing, often lit by the warm glow of a lamp or the last light through a window.

He was born in Coucouron in the Ardèche in 1857 and studied in Paris with Jean-Léon Gérôme and Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret. He began with landscapes and turned to the intimate interiors that became his speciality. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1890 and joined the Société des Artistes Français. He died in Toulouse in 1945. The museums in Le Puy-en-Velay and Avignon hold his work.

A Moment of Reflection and Après le Bain show his soft light and relaxed, domestic mood.
