George Beard

George Beard was a Utah painter and photographer who recorded the Uinta Mountains in romantic landscapes. His paintings of high peaks, lakes and passes have a sense of wonder at the wild scenery.
Born in Cheshire, England, he emigrated to Utah and lived in Coalville, where he ran the local cooperative store and served as mayor. He was largely self-taught and learned from photographer Charles R. Savage. He took hundreds of glass-plate photographs of the mountains, and a lake in the Uintas is named after him.
His collections are held at Brigham Young University. Look at the rugged mountains and the soft light on the peaks.
