The painting
The Dead Christ
Annibale Carracci painted this around 1583 to 1585: the dead Christ lying on a white sheet, seen sharply from the feet, the wounds in his hands and feet towards us, the nails and crown of thorns laid beside him. It is in the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart. We paint it by hand in oil after you order. You see a photo of the finished canvas and say yes before it is sent.

The hand behind it
Annibale Carracci
Annibale Carracci helped invent Baroque painting. He took the strong drawing of Florence and Rome and the warm colour of Venice and joined them, and he could do almost anything: altarpieces, myths, landscapes, portraits, even rough everyday scenes like The Beaneater. He was born in Bologna in 1560 and trained with his cousin Ludovico. With Ludovico and his brother Agostino he founded an academy in Bologna based on drawing from life. Around 1595 he moved to Rome for Cardinal Odoardo Farnese, and there he painted the ceiling of the Farnese Gallery, The Loves of the Gods, one of the great fresco cycles. His Flight into Egypt set the pattern for the classical landscape. Domenichino, Guido Reni and Lanfranco trained with him. He died in Rome in 1609 and is buried in the Pantheon near Raphael. In Domine Quo Vadis, which we offer, notice how Christ seems to step out of the picture towards us.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get The Dead Christ in a different size or shape?
Yes. The Dead Christ is painted to the size you want, in the original’s proportions, or adapted to another shape on request. Stretched and framed go up to 60 x 90 cm (24 x 36 in). The original measures 70.7 x 88.8 cm (27.8 x 35 in).
