The hand behind it
John Hoppner
John Hoppner painted the fashionable faces of Georgian London. His portraits have warm, rich colour and a loose, flowing touch, and he was at his best with women and children, painted in soft light against misty landscape backgrounds. He was born in Whitechapel to German parents, sang as a boy chorister in the royal chapel and entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1775, winning its gold medal for history painting in 1782. George III took an interest in his career, and the Prince of Wales became a frequent sitter and patron. For years Hoppner and Thomas Lawrence were the two leading portrait painters in London. His sitters included Nelson, Walter Scott and the Duke of Wellington, and many of his portraits remain in the Royal Collection. In portraits such as Captain George Porter, look at how he builds the face with care and lets the clothes and background stay free and sketchy.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get Lady Caroline Capel Holding Her Daughter Harriet in a different size or shape?
