The hand behind it
Alfred Sisley
Sisley was born in Paris to English parents, kept his British passport his whole life, and painted French rivers almost exclusively. He met Monet, Renoir and Bazille in Gleyre’s studio in the early 1860s, and of that group he was the one who never really moved on from landscape. No portraits to speak of. Almost no figure work. Just water, poplars, snow, flooded streets, and an obsessive attention to sky, which usually takes up more than half the canvas. His father’s business collapsed during the Franco-Prussian war and Sisley spent the rest of his life short of money, which is part of why the late work concentrates on Moret-sur-Loing, the small town near Fontainebleau where he settled and painted the same church and the same bridge over and over in different weather. Recognition arrived after he died, which is a cliché except that in his case it is simply what happened. Prices for his work rose sharply within a few years of his death in 1899.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get Lady’s Cove before the Storm in a different size or shape?
Yes. Lady’s Cove before the Storm is painted to the size you want, in the original’s proportions, or adapted to another shape on request. Stretched and framed go up to 60 x 90 cm (24 x 36 in).
