The painting
Portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni
Giovanna degli Albizzi married Lorenzo Tornabuoni in 1486 and died in childbirth two years later. Ghirlandaio painted her in profile, in a gold brocade dress, with a coral necklace and a small book on the shelf behind. The Latin card on the wall is dated 1488.
