Religious Procession in Kursk Province
Repin painted this between 1880 and 1883. A huge crowd walks along a dusty road behind a gilded icon, carried in a glass case: priests, landowners, peasants, and policemen with whips keeping order. At the left, a hunchbacked boy on a crutch is pushed away. It is in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. We paint it by hand in oil after you order. You see a photo of the finished canvas and say yes before it is sent.

The hand behind it
Ilya Repin
Ilya Repin painted Russia arguing with itself. Barge Haulers on the Volga, finished when he was twenty nine, shows eleven men roped to a boat, each face individual, and it made his reputation as much for its politics as its handling. He trained at the St Petersburg academy and joined the Peredvizhniki, who took exhibitions to provincial cities rather than waiting for audiences to come to them. The historical paintings, particularly Ivan the Terrible with the son he has just killed, were considered so disturbing that the Tsar banned public display of that one. He painted almost everyone worth painting in Russian culture: Tolstoy repeatedly, Mussorgsky days before his death, Rimsky-Korsakov. After 1917 his home at Kuokkala fell inside newly independent Finland, and he stayed there, declining Soviet invitations to return.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
