Karl Adloff
Carl Adloff painted river and coastal views in the Dutch manner: canals, harbours, beaches and towns, often by moonlight or in evening light, with calm water and careful architecture. He was born in Düsseldorf and studied at the Düsseldorf Academy, including landscape under Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. He was a member of the Malkasten artists’ association and exhibited widely. He died in Düsseldorf at 44. River with Moonlight Effect shows his favourite mood. Look at the reflected light on the water.
