The painting
Ruggiero Rescuing Angelica
Ingres painted this in 1819, from Ariosto's Orlando Furioso. The knight Ruggiero, on a winged horse, spears a sea monster with his lance, while Angelica, naked and chained to a rock, tilts her head back in terror. It is in the Louvre. We paint each copy by hand in oil, only after it is ordered, and send you a photo to approve first.

The hand behind it
Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres
Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres drew with a perfect, flowing line. His portraits are cool and polished, with smooth skin, glossy silks and precise detail, and his nudes, like the Grande Odalisque, stretch the body into long, graceful curves. Born in Montauban, he trained with Jacques-Louis David and won the Prix de Rome in 1801. He spent many years in Rome and Florence, returned to Paris in 1824 and became the leader of the classical tradition against the Romantics. He directed the French Academy in Rome from 1835 to 1841. His portraits of Monsieur Bertin, Madame Moitessier and the Baronne James de Rothschild are among his best. The Musée Ingres in Montauban holds thousands of his drawings. The Baronne de Rothschild shows his skill with fabric and a relaxed pose. Look at the smooth surface, with no visible brushstrokes.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get Ruggiero Rescuing Angelica in a different size or shape?
Yes. Ruggiero Rescuing Angelica is painted to the size you want, in the original’s proportions, or adapted to another shape on request. Stretched and framed go up to 60 x 90 cm (24 x 36 in). The original measures 147 x 190 cm (57.9 x 74.8 in).
