The hand behind it
Arnold Böcklin
Arnold Böcklin painted a dream world of classical myth: centaurs, nymphs, sea creatures and the god Pan, set in dark groves, rocky coasts and sunlit Italian landscapes. His mood swings from rowdy humour to deep melancholy, and death is never far away, most famously in Isle of the Dead, the rocky island of cypresses he painted in five versions between 1880 and 1886. Born in Basel in 1827, he studied at the Düsseldorf Academy and then in Antwerp, Brussels and Paris before moving to Rome in 1850, where Italy became his lasting inspiration. He later lived in Florence and Zurich and died at Fiesole, near Florence, in 1901. Famous across German-speaking Europe in his lifetime, he influenced Giorgio de Chirico and the Surrealists. The Kunstmuseum Basel holds a major collection of his work. Pan in the Reeds shows his gift for making myth feel part of real nature.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
