A Satyr Mourning over a Nymph
Piero di Cosimo painted this long panel around 1495. Procris lies dead on the grass after being speared by mistake by her husband. A satyr kneels beside her and touches her shoulder, and a big brown dog sits at her feet. Behind them is an estuary with herons and more dogs.
