The hand behind it
William Hogarth
William Hogarth painted stories. His best known pictures come in series, like chapters of a novel, that follow a character through vanity, greed and ruin, packed with small details and jokes for the viewer to find. He was born in London and trained as an engraver before studying painting under Sir James Thornhill. A Harlot’s Progress (1731) and A Rake’s Progress made him famous, and Marriage A-la-Mode (1743 to 1745), now in the National Gallery in London, is his finest set. He was also a sharp portrait painter, as his portraits of the actor David Garrick show. He campaigned for artists’ rights, and the 1735 copyright law for engravers is known as Hogarth’s Act. In the Marriage A-la-Mode scenes, look at the objects in the room: the paintings on the walls and the clutter on the floor all comment on the couple.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get The Wedding of Stephen Beckingham And Mary Cox in a different size or shape?
