Barthel Beham

Barthel Beham was a German painter and engraver known for portraits and tiny, detailed prints. His portraits are sharp and precise, and he was one of the Little Masters, a group of printmakers who made very small engravings.
Born in Nuremberg, he learned from his brother Hans Sebald Beham and was influenced by Albrecht Dürer. He left Nuremberg in 1525 and moved to Munich, where he worked for the Dukes of Bavaria, painting portraits of Duke Ludwig X and others. He died in Italy in 1540.
