The painting
Jacob Blessing the Sons of Joseph
Rembrandt painted this in 1656. The old, nearly blind Jacob, sitting up in bed, lays his right hand on the younger grandson, Ephraim, instead of the elder; Joseph gently tries to move it. Joseph's wife Asenath stands by, though she is not in the Bible story. It is in Kassel, in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister. We paint each copy by hand in oil, only after it is ordered, and send you a photo to approve first.

The hand behind it
Rembrandt
A miller’s son from Leiden who left university after a few months to train as a painter. By his mid-twenties he was in Amsterdam, running a busy studio and charging well for portraits of merchants who wanted to look substantial. The Night Watch was finished in 1642, the same year his wife Saskia died. The old story that the painting ruined him is not true: it was admired, and he was paid. What followed was messier than a single failure. He spent beyond his means, collected obsessively, and was declared insolvent in 1656. His house and collection were auctioned. He worked the rest of his life under an arrangement that kept his earnings out of creditors’ hands, and outlived both his partner Hendrickje and his son Titus. He painted himself roughly forty times across four decades. Put them in order and you get something no other painter of the period left behind: an unflattering record of a face ageing, and of a man who kept looking.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get Jacob Blessing the Sons of Joseph in a different size or shape?
