The Kiss (Klimt)
Against a flat gold ground, a man in a robe of geometric patterns bends to kiss the cheek of a woman in a flowered dress, her eyes closed and her face turned up to him. He wears a crown of vines, she one of flowers, and the flowery meadow ends under her bare feet. His head almost touches the top of the canvas, which reflects Japanese prints. The Austrian government bought it still unfinished when it went on show at the Kunstschau in Vienna in 1908.The Kiss Yellow is a hand-painted oil on canvas reproduction of Gustav Klimt's work. Each piece is made to order, with full customization of size and framing to suit your space. Every reproduction is backed by our 90-day satisfaction guarantee, with free worldwide shipping.

The hand behind it
Gustav Klimt
Klimt’s father was a gold engraver, which is not a coincidence. He trained as an architectural decorator and spent his twenties painting ceilings and staircases for the grand new buildings along Vienna’s Ringstrasse, working alongside his brother Ernst until Ernst died young. The respectable career ended with the university ceiling paintings. Commissioned in the 1890s, they were attacked as obscene by professors and press alike, and Klimt eventually returned the fee and kept the pictures. He took almost no public commissions afterwards. The gold paintings came next, made between roughly 1901 and 1909: flattened figures, Byzantine pattern, actual gold leaf. The Kiss belongs to this stretch and is the most reproduced image in Austrian art. He lived quietly with his mother and sisters, painted in a smock with nothing underneath, and left several canvases unfinished when a stroke killed him in 1918, months before the empire he had decorated stopped existing.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get The Kiss (Klimt) in a different size or shape?
Yes. The Kiss (Klimt) is painted to the size you want, in the original’s proportions, or adapted to another shape on request. Stretched and framed go up to 60 x 90 cm (24 x 36 in). The original measures 180 x 180 cm (70.9 x 70.9 in).
