About the series

The Seasons is a set of four decorative panels by the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, published in Paris in 1896 by the printer F. Champenois. Each season is shown as a young woman: Spring among blossom, Summer with poppies in her hair, Autumn holding grapes and Winter wrapped in a cloak in the snow.

The panels were made as colour lithographs, meant to be hung in homes as affordable art rather than posted in the street. They were a great success, and Mucha designed further Seasons sets in later years, including a version in 1897 and another in 1900. The long, flowing hair, soft colours and curving plant forms became his signature style and a model for Art Nouveau design across Europe.

The four panels are tall and narrow and were designed to be seen together. Hang all four in a row in the same size, or choose the season that suits the room.
