Cornelis Beelt

Cornelis Beelt was a Haarlem painter of the Dutch Golden Age. He painted busy beaches, winter scenes with skaters, the Haarlem market square and naval battles.
Little is known of his life. He was in Haarlem by 1630, belonged to its painters’ guild, and his dated works fall between 1651 and 1664.
Scheveningen Beach and The Dutch Herring Fleet under Sail show his coastal subjects. Look at the many small figures that bring the scenes to life.
