Gerrit Claesz Bleker

Gerrit Claesz Bleker was a landscape painter of Haarlem in the Dutch Golden Age. He set biblical and historical subjects in open Dutch scenery, and also painted cavalry skirmishes and hunting scenes in the dunes.
Born in Haarlem in 1592, he was probably a pupil of Nicolaes Moeyaert and belonged to the city’s painters’ guild. His pupils included Dirck Bleker, probably his son. The biographer Arnold Houbraken listed him among Haarlem’s notable landscape painters. He died in Haarlem in 1656.
