About Mediterranean Seaside Paintings
The strong light of southern Europe drew painters from all over. Joaquín Sorolla painted the beaches of Valencia in white and blue, as in "Walk on the Beach" (1909). Claude Monet spent the spring of 1888 in Antibes and painted its bay and old town. That summer Vincent van Gogh painted "Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saintes-Maries".
Paul Signac settled in Saint-Tropez and painted its port and pine trees.
