The Swing
Wearing a shepherdess hat, a young woman on a swing flings off a shoe with her outstretched left foot. Below on the left a young man hiding in the bushes, hat in hand, points at her billowing dress, while an older man half lost in shadow works the ropes and a small white dog barks. A statue of a putto above the young man holds a finger to its lips. According to one memoir, the courtier behind the commission wanted a bishop pushing the swing; Fragonard painted a layman. The Swing is a hand-painted oil on canvas reproduction of Jean-Honoré Fragonard's work. Each piece is made to order, with full customization of size and framing to suit your space. Every reproduction is backed by our 90-day satisfaction guarantee, with free worldwide shipping.

The hand behind it
Jean-Honoré Fragonard
Jean-Honoré Fragonard painted the lighter side of eighteenth century France: lovers in gardens, swings, stolen kisses and girls reading, all done with quick, feathery brushwork and warm, glowing colour. He was one of the most fluent painters of his age, and produced more than 550 paintings. He was born in Grasse in 1732, studied with Chardin and Boucher, won the Prix de Rome in 1752 and spent several years in Italy. His best known picture, The Swing, is in the Wallace Collection in London. A Young Girl Reading, one of his loose, rapidly painted fantasy figures, is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington. He died in Paris in 1806. In A Young Girl Reading, look for the scratches made with the end of the brush in her ruff.

Questions
How is the finish priced?
The price you see is the painting at the size you chose, in the finish you chose, and it updates as you change either. Rolled arrives in a protective tube, ready for local framing. Stretched arrives on wooden bars, ready to hang. Framed arrives in its frame, ready to hang. Stretched and framed go up to 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in); larger paintings travel rolled.
How long does it take?
Painting begins after you order and takes 3 to 4 weeks, including drying and the photo you approve. Delivery then takes 4 to 10 working days to most countries. More on delivery times.
Will it look exactly like the original?
It is painted by a person, so no. Brushwork varies between copies, which is the difference between a painting and a poster.
What if I do not like it?
Ninety days from delivery, full refund.
Can I get The Swing in a different size or shape?
Yes. The Swing is painted to the size you want, in the original’s proportions, or adapted to another shape on request. Stretched and framed go up to 60 x 90 cm (24 x 36 in). The original measures 81 x 64.2 cm (31.9 x 25.3 in).
