About Paintings for the Bedroom
Bedroom paintings work best when they are calm. Claude Monet's water lilies, with their soft blues and greens, are a common choice above a bed. Vincent van Gogh even painted his own room in "The Bedroom" (1888), with its simple furniture and bright colours. The quiet grey interiors of Vilhelm Hammershøi and the soft landscapes of Corot suit a restful room.
Above a double bed, a landscape format about two thirds of the bed's width looks right. Hang it about 20 to 30 cm above the headboard. Two smaller paintings either side of the bed also work, above bedside tables. Avoid very busy or dark scenes if you want the room to feel restful, and choose soft blues, greens and pinks.
