About Post-Impressionist Landscape Paintings
The Post-Impressionists kept the bright palette of Impressionism but gave landscapes more structure and feeling. Vincent van Gogh painted "The Harvest" (1888) in Provence in blocks of yellow and blue. Paul Cézanne built "The Bay of Marseille, Seen from L'Estaque" from flat planes of colour. Paul Gauguin painted Brittany and later Tahiti in bold, unmixed colour.
In 1888 Paul Sérusier painted "The Talisman" in Brittany under Gauguin's guidance, reducing a wood by a river to patches of pure colour.
