About Renaissance Mythological Paintings
Renaissance patrons revived the myths of Greece and Rome. Sandro Botticelli painted "The Birth of Venus" and "Primavera" for Florentine collectors, and both are now in the Uffizi. Titian's "Bacchus and Ariadne" (1520 to 1523), in the National Gallery in London, shows the god leaping from his chariot in brilliant blues and reds.
Raphael painted the sea nymph Galatea riding a shell pulled by dolphins in a fresco at the Villa Farnesina in Rome.
