About Red Paintings
Red draws the eye first, and painters have used it to set the tone of a whole picture. Henri Matisse covered a dining table and wall in the same red in "Harmony in Red" (1908), and painted his studio almost entirely red in "The Red Studio" (1911). Edvard Munch painted a blood-red sky in "The Scream" (1893).
Titian dressed his saints and noblemen in rich crimson, and Van Gogh painted "The Red Vineyard" (1888) at harvest time. A red painting makes a strong focal point. Hang one alone on a white or grey wall in a living room, dining room or hallway.
